For the last three weeks or so, I've been running around town, doing errands and work stuff. For the first time since I finished college, I feel that there isn't enough time in a day to do everything I need to do. Trying to figure out which tasks I can postpone or cancel can be challenging and confusing, but somehow I always end up sacrificing the task I want to do most: SLEEP.
So while driving somewhere on route to a work thing, I remembered a Top Three (a game we used to play on road trips where a category would be stated and each person would say their top three preferences or choices) category once asked: top three fictional inventions you'd like to have (I don't remember the actual category but something like that). And I remembered Hermione's Time Turner from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It was a gadget she wore on a chain around her neck with an hourglass she could turn and that brought her back in time to be able to use time she already spent elsewhere.
Although on normal days, I'd much rather have a Pensieve (the basin of silvery s**t used to store memories for easy access whenever you need them) or that camera-in-the-eye thing that can take instant pictures ready to print from your brain. Lately, I've been thinking that Time Turner would actually be very useful, even if I just wanted to use it to go back in time and sleep. That would be a very wonderful gadget to have around. Just thinking of the unlimited sleep I could actually get??? Damn!
And in the words immortalized by Will Smith in Independence Day, "I have got to get me one of these!!!" hehehe

Art Imitating Life
A week and a half ago, I bought something I've always thought would be a really fun thing to have... a PlayStation 2. So when the opportunity arose, I grabbed it, literally.
I have several games that came with the console, but lately, my favorite one (the one that takes way too much of my time) is The Sims 2. I think it's really fascinating the way the game mirrors the human everyday experience and how certain situations in the game truly reflect real life.
I admit that when I get into something, I somehow begin to have a one-track mind about it and am somehow able to relate everything that happens in my life to that "obsession" (if you will!!! hehehe). Maybe this is just one of those times but I've seen the reactions of my sims done by actual friends and people around me.
From the physical manifestations. The way the sims don't want to go to work after a long night but have to. The way they get frustrated when they are woken up when they're still really sleepy. The way they jump around and try to hold it in when they really have to pee. The way they complain about doing house chores when they don't feel like it.
To the emotional and social reactions. The way they get really upset with the lack of social interactions way more than the lack of physical needs. The way the level of their relationships decreases as time goes by without talking to each other and hanging out. The way friends are demoted to acquaintances with the lack of these social interactions.
I could go on forever. I'm just happy the people who made this game are really good at what they do. And for now, this truly is my addiction... and the reason I haven't updated my blog in a while (oh, the sims make blogs too. hehehe).

Transient No More
July 19 of this year, my mom opened a small kiosk-type coffee and bread shop called BrewBaker, located at WalterMart in E. Rodriguez, Quezon City. Since in the beginning, they told us the spot we had was just temporary, we brought only our stand and a few tables we had lying around at home, put everything we wanted to sell and called it a store. For a while there, decisions as to where we were really going to set up were floating in the air, and our makeshift store was adequate for this purpose.
Fast forward. Today after months of this, our makeshift store is makeshift no more. Since we were assigned this particular location already, our little store has undergone an extreme makeover. It now looks like the kiosk-type little coffee and bread shop it was meant to be.
So if you're ever in the area, pass by our store and tell the girl you know me and she'll give you a bigger smile. Hehehe

New Manila Massacre
It was the worst "arbocide" I've ever seen.
On September 28, 2006, New Manila residents witnessed a gruesome massacre... of trees, that is. The destruction brought on by typhoon Millenyo claimed the lives of a couple of dozen trees at the very least. Coming home from lunch at a nearby restaurant (somewhere in Tomas Morato) proved to be a great challenge as every street we turned into had a large fallen mango tree blocking our path. Vehicles had to, by trial and error, figure out which roads, or should I say, which combinations of road segments could bring them home. The very next day was a sunny day. After an entire night of blaring chainsaws, we decided to drive around and take pictures, see what was left of the wreckage. We noticed how efficient the cleaning process was coming along (much to my annoyance as I couldn't get better, more shocking pictures). But I have to commend these people cleaning and chopping all that wood all night. Good job!!!
I just hope someone would start a campaign to replant all these mango trees that were brutally uprooted by the storm because it would be weird to have a mango as the barangay logo if there aren't any mango trees left.
PS: I wrote this in the dark of night and would have uploaded it sooner but we only got our power back at 5:30 this afternoon, after about 130 hours of powerless (literally and figuratively) misery.
Shoutout! Thanks Ganter for all your photo tips!!!
